HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY

HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY STATEMENT:

Rottingdean Bowling Club is strongly committed to encouraging our members to take part in all activities, however the health, well-being and safety of each individual is always our paramount concern. The Health and Safety of all members and guests who use the Club facilities is a major concern of the Club. The Management Committee recognises that achieving and maintaining high standards of safety requires that the Club’s Management Committee, members, visitors and contractors are aware of and discharge their respective responsibilities. The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 requires all members, including contractors working on the Club premises, to conduct themselves in such a manner as to ensure that they pose no risk to their own or any other person’s health and safety

HEALTH AND SAFETY - GENERAL POLICY:

To support our Health and Safety policy statement we are as far as is reasonably practicable committed to the following duties:

• Undertake regular, recorded risk assessment of the club premises and all activities undertaken by the club
• Create a safe environment by putting Health and Safety measures in place as identified by the assessment
• Ensure all members are provided with information, instruction and training as is necessary to ensure they are assured of a safe and healthy environment.
• Promoting the awareness of health and safety and encouraging health and safety best practice throughout the club.
• To ensure we are taking the appropriate protective and preventative measures.
• To ensure that we have access to competent advice and are able to secure compliance with our statutory duties.
• Ensure that the implementation of the policy is reviewed regularly and monitored for effectiveness.

CLUB MEMBERS HAVE A DUTY TO:

• Take reasonable care for your own Health and Safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or not do
• Co-operate with the club on health and safety issues
• Correctly use all equipment provided by the club
• Not interfere with or misuse anything provided for your health, safety or welfare.

CLUB HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER :

Norman Watson

FIRST AID:

Location of first aid facilities:

In pavilion –

First Aid Kit - West wall of club house next to Kitchen

Defibrillator - West wall of club house near the First Aid cupboard

Location of telephone: West wall of club house between the two doors.

QUALIFIED FIRST AIDERS:

Several of our members have qualified as First Aiders in the past, but because of age, and qualification and insurance costs, are not current certificate holders. We also quite often have members who have worked as health professionals.

Rottingdean Bowling Club is an amateur club run entirely by volunteers. It can be accessed by members at any time and members can play at any time from 10 am until dusk during the season without prior notice. This means it would be impractical to ensure there was a qualified first aider in attendance at all times.

Members are made aware of the first aid provision and of what to do in an emergency. The first aid box is in clear view and easily accessible and the telephone is free to use.
